Fracture
The coffin bone (P3) is located almost completely within the hoof capsule of the foot, which offers a tremendous amount of protection. However, the amount of concussion and the varying terrain and circumstances that the foot is exposed to explains the occurrence of coffin bone fractures. An articular wing or type 2 fracture (there are 7 types) is the most common and extends from the solar surface to the articular surface.
